Zelensky Claims Putin Ready for Real Meetings Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is now “finally ready for real meetings,” suggesting that Ukraine has played a role in prompting this shift. Zelensky made these remarks during an evening address, emphasizing the need to find a format for discussions aimed at ending the ongoing war and ensuring security.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine is actively engaging with its partners to strengthen its negotiating position. He highlighted ongoing discussions with the United States, particularly concerning security issues. “We are working to ensure our diplomacy has all the necessary strong positions, alongside every partner that can bolster Ukraine,” he stated.

The president also noted that Ukrainian forces on the front lines have expressed a need for long-range artillery shells, despite the increasing use of drones. “The combat zones are expanding, and the use of all types of drones is a priority. However, the soldiers themselves are saying: artillery is needed. Specifically, long-range artillery,” Zelensky remarked.

He further mentioned a new and significant agreement with Norway regarding the joint production of 155mm caliber shells, which are essential for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. “We are preparing now for our diplomatic work next week. Meetings are planned; today we discussed them with Alex Stubb, the President of Finland, and coordinated our positions. Effective formats will be in place. Ukraine needs support every day. Regardless of what happens, we are preparing for defense. We are ensuring our soldiers have everything necessary,” he added.

Previously, Putin indicated his willingness to meet with Zelensky in a third country, rather than solely in Moscow. He described the potential meeting as “final” and intended for signing a contract, rather than merely negotiating to end the war initiated by Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict. Zelensky emphasized the importance of strengthening Ukraine's position through international partnerships and highlighted the military's need for long-range artillery amid ongoing hostilities.
