Ukrainian President Zelensky Meets Swiss Leader at G7 Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the G7 summit in Geneva, where he engaged in discussions with Swiss President Guy Parmelin. The talks focused on Russian military actions, Ukraine’s defense needs, and potential sanctions against Russia.

Zelensky expressed gratitude to Switzerland for its support and willingness to assist in achieving peace. He briefed Parmelin on the ongoing Russian attacks and emphasized the necessity for enhanced air defense capabilities for Ukraine.

During the meeting, Zelensky provided insights into the current situation on the front lines and the long-range strikes conducted by the Ukrainian military. He noted, “Our mid-strikes and deep strikes justifiably compel Russia to feel the repercussions of the war it has initiated. We discussed what sanctions could also prompt Russia to engage in negotiations.”

The two leaders also explored avenues for cooperation in the energy sector. Zelensky acknowledged Switzerland’s assistance in helping Ukraine endure the winter and expressed hopes for continued support.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Switzerland. On June 14, Zelensky had a phone conversation with Trump to congratulate him on his 80th birthday, during which they discussed negotiations aimed at ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and agreed to meet on the sidelines of the G7 summit.

French President Emmanuel Macron indicated that the summit participants plan to address support for Kyiv, the conclusion of the war, the situation regarding Iran, and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Ukrainian President Zelensky's meeting with Swiss President Parmelin at the G7 summit highlighted ongoing concerns regarding Russian aggression and Ukraine's defense requirements. The discussions also underscored the importance of international cooperation and sanctions as potential tools for peace negotiations.
