Ukrainian President Expects US Delegation Visit Amid Ongoing Peace Efforts

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed hope that representatives from the United States, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will visit Kyiv in two weeks. In an interview with CBS News’ Face the Nation, Zelensky emphasized the significance of their potential visit.

“We expect them to come to Kyiv. I hope they will find the opportunity to be here in two weeks. My negotiating team informed me that they have been in contact with Steve and Jared, who indicated their willingness to come to Ukraine and discuss matters, contingent on the situation in the Middle East,” Zelensky stated.

The President noted the importance of the American delegation’s presence in Ukraine, saying, “They have never been here. I believe it is crucial not only for us but also for them to understand the situation on the ground and see that life continues here. However, we want to end this war, and that requires stopping Russia. They have visited Moscow several times, and I have previously mentioned that if they wish to go to Moscow this time, they should first come to Kyiv before heading there. I think that would be beneficial.”

On May 8, Zelensky indicated that Witkoff and Kushner were expected to arrive in Ukraine at the transition between spring and summer. Both are part of the American delegation acting as mediators in the negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow aimed at finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict.

On May 20, the Kremlin announced that Witkoff and Kushner would also visit Moscow, although details of their agenda were not disclosed, nor was a specific date provided.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed on May 22 that Washington remains committed to facilitating dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, provided there is an opportunity for a “constructive and productive” discussion.

President Zelensky anticipates a visit from U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Kyiv, emphasizing the importance of their presence in ongoing peace negotiations. The visit is seen as a crucial step in understanding the situation in Ukraine and advancing discussions to end the conflict with Russia.
