Ukrainian Official Clarifies Berlin Visit Amid Media Speculation

The head of Ukraine’s negotiating delegation, Rustem Umerov, is currently in Berlin for a working visit, but reports of urgent, closed-door talks regarding potential threats to Kyiv have been dismissed by his office.

According to Umerov’s press service, he is meeting with Germany’s Chancellor’s advisor on foreign policy and security, Günther Saathoff. The discussions are focused on security issues, the negotiation process, and defense cooperation, particularly concerning the Drone Deal between Ukraine and Germany.

“We did not discuss the matter of ‘limited EU membership,'” the press service stated.

Contrary to earlier media reports suggesting that Umerov was engaged in emergency negotiations, his office has firmly denied these claims. They emphasized that there is no extraordinary meeting taking place.

“This is standard planned work with European colleagues. Yesterday was Brussels, today is Berlin, and there will be several more European capitals this week,” the statement added.

The clarification comes at a time when tensions in the region have heightened, leading to increased scrutiny of diplomatic activities involving Ukraine.

Rustem Umerov's visit to Berlin has been clarified as a routine diplomatic engagement, countering media claims of urgent negotiations regarding threats to Kyiv. His discussions with German officials center on security and defense cooperation, not emergency talks.
