Ukrainian Kayaker Lyudmyla Luzan Wins Two Gold Medals at Euro 2026

Lyudmyla Luzan has made waves at the Euro 2026 Canoeing Championships by clinching two gold medals in the women’s kayak events. Competing in Portugal, Luzan first triumphed in the single canoe 200-meter race and later secured victory in the canoe double alongside teammate Anastasiya Rybachok.

The Euro 2026 Championships are one of the premier events for canoeists this year, with Ukraine fielding athletes in 18 finals. Luzan is a key competitor for the Ukrainian team, participating in five of those finals.

In her first gold medal event, Luzan excelled in the single canoe 200-meter final, finishing with a time of 43.710 seconds, which was over 1.7 seconds faster than her closest rival from Italy.

This victory marks Luzan’s first European Championship title in this distance and her fifth overall at the continental level, bringing her total European Championship medals to 13.

In her second event, Luzan teamed up with Rybachok in the canoe double 200-meter race. The duo crossed the finish line first, clocking in at 43.399 seconds to secure another gold medal.

Previously, Luzan and Rybachok had earned a bronze medal in this event at Euro 2021, and Luzan also holds a silver medal from Euro 2025 in the canoe double with Irina Fedoriv.

In addition to her gold medal performances, Luzan and her team finished sixth in the canoe four 500-meter race. With these results, Luzan has now accumulated a total of 14 medals from European Championships.

Luzan is set to compete for two more medals at Euro 2026, with finals scheduled for Sunday, June 14. She will race in the canoe double 500-meter and the single canoe 500-meter events.
