The Oslo District Court has found 29-year-old Marius Borg Høiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, guilty on two counts of rape, sentencing him to four years in prison. The ruling has drawn significant attention given his royal connections.
In addition to the rape convictions, Høiby was acquitted of two other rape charges but was found guilty of several other offenses, including harassment of his former girlfriend, Norwegian influencer Nora Haukland, and causing severe bodily harm to another partner.
Høiby did not attend the court proceedings in person due to unspecified health issues but participated via video link. Prosecutors had sought a sentence of seven years and seven months, while the defense argued for a reduced term of 18 months. Høiby’s legal team has indicated they may appeal the verdict.
The court also ordered Høiby to pay a total of 640,000 Norwegian kroner in compensation to four women affected by his actions. Despite his mother’s royal status, Høiby does not hold a royal title, having been raised in the royal family after his mother married Crown Prince Haakon. The palace has stated it will not comment on the court’s decision.
