Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that on June 20, Special Operations Forces successfully conducted drone strikes against an oil refinery in Tyumen, Russia.
During a public address, he stated,
“Our long-range sanctions have reached the Tyumen region in Russia, which is also an oil refining area. More than 2,000 kilometers from our state border. Effectively,”
highlighting the operational reach of Ukrainian military capabilities.
Zelensky noted that the operation utilized newly upgraded drones developed by the Ukrainian defense company Fire Point.
“Now they can reach targets at a distance of 3,000 kilometers. I am grateful to the engineers at Fire Point. These are entirely justified responses to Russian strikes against our state. The plan for Ukrainian long-range sanctions is being executed,”
he added.
The President further mentioned that Ukrainian forces continue to strike Russian military targets in temporarily occupied territories, impacting Russian logistics.
On the same day, Tyumen’s regional governor, Alexander Moor, confirmed the drone attack on the oil refinery, asserting that Russian air defense systems had reportedly intercepted the strikes and that there was no damage to the facility.
The Tyumen refinery has a projected capacity of between 7.5 and 9 million tons of crude oil annually.
