Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukrainian defense forces successfully struck a Russian missile ship, the “Karakurt,” along with a patrol boat and a tanker associated with a shadowy oil fleet at the Primorsk port in the Leningrad region of Russia.
In a statement shared via Telegram, Zelensky noted,
“Another Russian carrier of ‘Kalibr’ missiles is down. Major General Yevheniy Khmara reported on the successful targeting of objects at Primorsk port. This operation was a coordinated effort involving our Security Service, drone units, special operations forces, and border guards. Thank you to all our warriors for your teamwork!”
He further indicated that the operation had inflicted significant damage on the port’s oil infrastructure, emphasizing that each successful strike diminishes Russia’s military capabilities. Zelensky remarked that such actions are crucial in limiting the potential for continued aggression.
Additionally, the President mentioned that he has approved further responses from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) to counter Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and villages. He stated,
“Russia can end this war at any moment. Prolonging the conflict will only lead to an escalation of our defensive operations. Thank you to everyone fighting for Ukraine.”
This announcement follows a report from May 3, where Zelensky indicated that Ukrainian forces had previously targeted two vessels from Russia’s shadow fleet in the waters near Novorossiysk port, which were reportedly engaged in transporting Russian oil.
The situation continues to evolve, with ongoing military operations and strategic responses from both sides.
Ukrainian forces have successfully targeted key Russian naval assets at Primorsk port, as President Zelensky highlights the importance of these operations in limiting Russian military capabilities. The ongoing conflict sees continued efforts from Ukraine to respond to Russian aggression.
