In a coordinated operation on June 8, Ukrainian forces struck the “Grushovaya” oil depot in Novorossiysk, located in Russia’s Krasnodar region. This facility, managed by “Chernomortransneft” under the larger umbrella of “Transneft,” is one of the largest oil product storage sites in the Caucasus.
The “Grushovaya” depot has a total storage capacity of approximately 1.2 to 1.4 million tons and serves as a crucial accumulation point for the Novorossiysk oil port. The complex is responsible for receiving, storing, and transferring crude oil and petroleum products that arrive via major pipelines for further maritime export.
This oil depot plays a significant role in the Russian economy, contributing substantial revenue to the state budget, which is reportedly utilized to finance military operations, including those against Ukraine. Following the attack, a fire was reported at the site, and the extent of the damage is currently being assessed, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces successfully targeted the "Grushovaya" oil depot in Novorossiysk, a key facility for oil storage and export in Russia. This operation highlights the strategic importance of such sites in the ongoing conflict, particularly their role in funding military activities.
