In the early hours of June 8, fragments of what is believed to be an exploded drone were discovered near the village of Lopatna in Moldova’s Orhei district. The Moldovan Ministry of Defense is currently investigating the origin and circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the ministry’s statement on Facebook, at approximately 12:20 AM, national army surveillance systems detected a drone crossing the state border from the areas of Mihailivka and Lopatna.
“Following the intervention of specialized units from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the presence of drone fragments on an agricultural field near Lopatna was confirmed. Evidence suggests that the drone may have exploded prior to the discovery,” the ministry reported.
Authorities noted that the remnants are being analyzed to determine the drone’s origin, emphasizing that this incident coincides with a recent wave of Russian strikes on Ukraine.
Local news outlet NewsMaker reported that a resident alerted law enforcement after spotting an unidentified flying object resembling a drone that subsequently exploded outside the village.
“Police, rescue workers, and specialized service personnel arrived at the scene promptly. They cordoned off the area and conducted necessary checks. Bomb disposal experts and emergency management officials from the Orhei district were also present. Preliminary reports indicate that there were no injuries,” the police stated.
Further updates on the situation are expected.
Fragments of a suspected drone were found in Moldova, likely linked to ongoing regional tensions. Authorities are investigating the incident's origins and ensuring public safety.
