Ukrainian Ex-President’s Office Head Released on Bail Amid Corruption Charges

Andrii Yermak, the former head of Ukraine’s presidential office, has been granted bail set at 140 million hryvnias following his indictment on serious corruption charges. This decision comes after the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) formally accused him of money laundering linked to a high-profile real estate project.

The bail conditions impose several restrictions on Yermak, including mandatory appearances before investigators, prosecutors, and the court. He is prohibited from leaving Kyiv without permission from judicial authorities, must report any changes in his residence or employment, and is required to surrender all passports to the State Migration Service. Additionally, he must wear an electronic monitoring device.

On May 11, Yermak was charged under Article 209 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which pertains to the legalization of assets obtained through criminal means, particularly when conducted by an organized group or in significant amounts. The penalties for this offense range from eight to twelve years in prison, alongside potential disqualification from holding certain positions and confiscation of property.

The case is centered around the construction of a cottage community named “Dynasty” located in Kozyn, near Kyiv. During the hearings on May 12 and 13, judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) reviewed evidence presented by prosecutors, including recordings of conversations between key figures discussing illicit financial transactions.

Prosecutors also submitted evidence from a smartphone seized during a search, which allegedly contained communications related to appointments of various officials, including exchanges with a contact referred to as “Andrey 2025.” Yermak and his legal team have denied all allegations, arguing that the bail amount requested by prosecutors was excessive. They contended that the property in question is incomplete and that Yermak had no legal ownership rights over it.

The situation continues to develop as the legal proceedings unfold.

Andrii Yermak, former head of Ukraine's presidential office, has been released on bail amid corruption charges related to a real estate project. The case highlights ongoing issues of corruption in Ukraine's political landscape.
