Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that on the night of June 6, Ukrainian drones targeted military arsenals and a base in Russia’s Leningrad region. This operation marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Zelensky stated via Facebook, “This war needs to end. However, the Russian leadership is intent on continuing the fight. Therefore, our sanctions are actively addressing this aggression. Last night, our drones covered approximately 1,000 kilometers to reach the enemy’s naval arsenals and bases in Kronstadt near St. Petersburg.”
He further mentioned that long-range strikes also reached around 500 kilometers into the Krasnodar region, hitting an oil depot. Zelensky emphasized the necessity for Russia to conclude its military actions, asserting, “Any acts of injustice against Ukraine will receive a just response.”
The President noted that the strikes were coordinated efforts involving the Armed Forces of Ukraine (ZSU), the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), and the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR).
This drone attack comes amid a series of aerial assaults on Russian regions and temporarily occupied territories in Ukraine, which have resulted in fires at oil depots and damage to port infrastructure in Mariupol and Kronstadt.
Ukrainian drones have successfully targeted military sites in Russia's Leningrad region, signaling a notable escalation in the conflict. President Zelensky emphasized the need for an end to hostilities while asserting Ukraine's commitment to respond to aggression.
