Ukrainian Drone Operators Excel in Swedish Military Exercises

Ukrainian drone operators demonstrated notable effectiveness during military exercises in Sweden, aimed at training NATO forces in drone warfare. The exercises, which included participation from U.S. troops, were observed by the Associated Press this week.

The scenario involved a fictitious threat from an unnamed country amassing troops along NATO’s eastern border, reflecting concerns about potential aggression, particularly from Russia. The drills were designed to assess the readiness of NATO countries before invoking Article 5 on collective defense.

“Theoretically, this could happen as soon as tomorrow,” stated Rear Admiral Jonas Wikström, the exercise commander.

During one phase of the training, the Ukrainian operators, acting as aggressors, effectively neutralized Swedish forces. This segment highlighted the challenges faced by the Swedish military in adapting to drone warfare tactics.

“They (the Swedish military) paused the exercises three times to help the troops understand their mistakes, but in a real battle, everyone would already be dead,” shared one of the Ukrainian operators.

The exercises took place on Gotland, a strategically significant island in the Baltic Sea, positioned between Russian territory in Kaliningrad and mainland Sweden. This location underscores its importance in regional security considerations.

Ukrainian drone operators showcased their skills in recent military exercises in Sweden, effectively training NATO forces in drone tactics. The exercises were conducted against a backdrop of heightened security concerns in the region.
