Ukrainian Athlete Alexander Onufriyev Wins Gold at Josef Odložil Memorial

Ukrainian high jumper Alexander Onufriyev clinched the gold medal in the men’s high jump at the Josef Odložil Memorial held in Prague. The 24-year-old athlete cleared heights of 5.21 and 5.41 meters on his first attempts, showcasing his skill and precision.

Onufriyev shared the lead with Spain’s Arthur Kol after these initial jumps. The competition intensified at the next height of 5.50 meters, where only Onufriyev and American Hunter Garrettson succeeded. Onufriyev emerged as the sole leader after clearing the height in two attempts, while Garrettson required three.

Neither athlete managed to clear 5.58 meters, securing Onufriyev’s victory and marking his first gold medal of the 2026 international season.

  • Alexander Onufriyev (Ukraine) — 5.50 m
  • Hunter Garrettson (USA) — 5.50 m
  • Arthur Kol (Spain) — 5.41 m

Earlier in the summer season, Onufriyev earned a bronze medal at a tournament in Limassol, Cyprus, at the end of May, where he achieved a height of 5.40 meters. Since the beginning of the year, he has cleared 5.50 meters on three occasions, including retaining his title as indoor champion of Ukraine in February with a jump of 5.60 meters. His personal best this season stands at 5.70 meters, achieved at a meet in Cottbus.

The Prague event concluded with Ukrainian athletes earning two medals, including a bronze in men’s javelin throw, where Arthur Felvner recorded a season-best throw of 80.27 meters.

Alexander Onufriyev's victory at the Josef Odložil Memorial highlights his impressive performance in high jumping this season. With multiple achievements already, he aims to build on this momentum in upcoming competitions.
