Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepts Majority of Russian Drone Attacks

In the early hours of May 23, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully neutralized 102 out of 124 drones launched by the Russian military in a significant overnight assault. The attacks were reported to have targeted multiple locations across Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the offensive began at approximately 6:30 PM on May 22, with the Russian forces deploying various types of drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and imitation drones known as ‘Parody.’ These drones were launched from several regions, including Kursk, Shatalovo, Bryansk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Gvardeyskoye in Crimea.

By 8:30 AM, Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups had engaged and either shot down or suppressed the majority of the incoming drones. The successful interception occurred in the northern, southern, and eastern parts of the country.

The Russian attack resulted in 12 drones striking nine different locations, with debris falling in five areas. The Ukrainian Air Force indicated that the assault was ongoing, with several groups of enemy drones still present in the airspace.

“The attack continues; there are several groups of enemy drones in the airspace. Please adhere to safety regulations,” the Air Force stated.

Ukrainian air defense forces intercepted a significant number of Russian drones in a recent attack, demonstrating their capability to respond to aerial threats. Despite the interception, some drones managed to strike multiple locations, indicating ongoing challenges in airspace security.
