On May 22, Ukrainian forces reported 216 combat engagements as Russian troops intensified their offensive efforts across several key areas. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that Russian military operations were particularly active in the Lyman, Kostiantynivka, Pokrovsk, and Huliaipole directions, resulting in significant losses for the attackers.
According to the morning briefing on May 23, Russian forces conducted 83 airstrikes, dropping 264 guided bombs. Additionally, they deployed 9,753 kamikaze drones and carried out 3,195 shelling incidents targeting both civilian areas and Ukrainian military positions, including 34 attacks using multiple launch rocket systems.
The report indicated that Russian airstrikes occurred in the regions of Tovstodubove and Pustohorod in Sumy Oblast. In response, Ukrainian aviation, missile troops, and artillery targeted a command post, nine troop concentration areas, and an enemy artillery system.
Throughout May 22, Russian military casualties were reported at 950 personnel. Ukrainian forces also destroyed five tanks, five armored personnel carriers, 68 artillery systems, one multiple launch rocket system, four air defense systems, four ground robotic complexes, 1,819 drones, 201 vehicles, and five units of specialized equipment.
Current Situation on the Frontlines
In the North-Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, six clashes took place, with Russian forces conducting 81 shelling operations against Ukrainian positions and settlements, including one attack with multiple launch rocket systems. They also executed five airstrikes and utilized ten guided bombs.
In the South-Slobozhansky direction, seven assaults were reported near the settlements of Ternove, Hraniv, and Novovasyliivka.
Ukrainian defenders halted five attacks in the Kupiansk area, particularly near Hlushkivka and Novoplatonivka.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces made 12 attempts to advance around the settlements of Torske, Ozerne, Drobysheve, Dibrivka, Yampil, and Lyman.
Ukrainian troops successfully repelled three attempts by Russian forces to advance in the Sloviansk direction, particularly near the settlements of Zakitne and Rai-Oleksandrivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, two attacks were thwarted near Nykiforivka and Tykhonivka.
Russian forces launched 16 assaults in the Kostiantynivka area, targeting locations such as Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiyivka, Illinivka, Ivanopillia, Novodmytrivka, and Stepaniivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled 42 assault actions from Russian troops in various settlements, including Vylne, Bilytske, Rodynske, Oleksandrivka, Shevchenko, Pokrovsk, Hryshyne, Toretske, Dorožne, Novooleksandrivka, Udachne, Kucheryv Yar, Novopavlivka, and Novopidhorodne.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Russian forces launched two attacks near Verbove and Zaporizke.
In the Huliaipole direction, 32 attacks were recorded in areas such as Nova Zaporizhzhia, Zlahoda, Solodke, Staroukrainka, Dobropillia, Hirke, Zaliznychne, Vozdvizhivka, Olenokostyantynivka, and Charivne.
No active operations were reported in the Orikhiv direction. Ukrainian units also halted two attacks in the Dnipro direction near Hola Prystan and Zaplava.
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, no signs of Russian offensive group formations were detected.
