Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepts Majority of Russian Drone Attacks

On May 20, the Ukrainian military reported that Russian forces launched a total of 84 strike and imitation drones against Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted 75 of these drones, although six managed to hit their targets.

The attacks occurred between 08:30 and 17:00, with Russian forces deploying various types of drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and imitation drones known as “Parody.” The Ukrainian defense was bolstered by air force units, surface-to-air missile systems, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups.

According to preliminary reports from the Ukrainian Air Force, by 17:00, the air defense had destroyed or suppressed 75 hostile drones across the eastern, northern, and southern regions of the country. However, six strike drones were confirmed to have struck their intended targets.

The Ukrainian military noted that the attack was ongoing, with several Russian drones still operating within Ukrainian airspace.

In a related incident, one civilian was killed and eleven others injured due to a Russian strike on the residential sector of Konotop in the Sumy region during the night of May 20.

On May 20, Ukrainian air defense forces intercepted a significant majority of Russian drone attacks, although some drones did manage to inflict damage. The ongoing conflict continues to impact civilian areas, as evidenced by casualties from a separate strike in Konotop.
