Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin have formalized their partnership by signing a declaration aimed at establishing a multipolar world and a new type of international relations. This agreement was reached during Putin’s recent visit to Beijing, where the two leaders discussed various aspects of their collaboration.
During the meeting, approximately 20 documents were signed, covering a range of cooperative initiatives. Among these was a statement reinforcing their comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction, alongside an extension of the existing friendship and cooperation treaty, which marks its 25th anniversary.
Xi Jinping emphasized that the relationship between China and Russia has reached new heights, asserting that their collaboration will serve as a crucial constant amid the ongoing transformation of the global order. He noted the importance of their partnership in navigating current international challenges.
In response, Putin remarked that both nations are committed to fostering a more equitable and democratic global framework. He highlighted the necessity of their close ties in light of heightened tensions on the international stage, suggesting that their relationship has achieved an unprecedented level of cooperation.
Putin pointed to energy collaboration as a key driver of economic partnership between the two countries. He stated, “Amid the crisis in the Middle East, Russia continues to be a reliable supplier of resources, while China acts as a responsible consumer of these resources.” This underscores the economic interdependence that characterizes their bilateral relations.
Putin’s arrival in Beijing on May 19 was marked by a delegation of 39 individuals, including ministers and representatives from Russian state corporations and businesses. This visit followed shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump’s own trip to China, which concluded on May 15, where he also met with Xi Jinping.
The recent meeting between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin in Beijing resulted in a series of agreements aimed at strengthening Sino-Russian relations. The leaders emphasized their commitment to a multipolar world and highlighted energy cooperation as a central aspect of their partnership.
