In a significant overnight assault on May 16, Russian forces launched 294 drones targeting Ukraine, including various models such as Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and imitation drones known as “Parody.” Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted 269 of these drones, according to reports from the Ukrainian Air Force.
The drones were reportedly launched from multiple locations, including regions like Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and areas in Crimea.
Ukrainian defense operations involved a coordinated response from aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare divisions, and mobile fire groups. The air defense forces managed to neutralize a significant number of the incoming threats.
As of 9:00 AM, preliminary assessments indicated that 269 enemy drones had been either shot down or suppressed across various regions of Ukraine, including the north, south, center, and east. Reports confirmed that 20 of the attacking drones struck 15 different locations, with debris falling in nine areas.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the attack is ongoing, with several Russian drones still active in the airspace.
