Ukraine’s Security Service Launches New Operations Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced the approval of new operations by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), although specific details were not disclosed. In a recent evening address, he highlighted the SBU’s achievements, particularly noting that its Alpha Unit has been the most effective in engaging enemy forces since the beginning of the year.

Zelensky emphasized the importance of these operations in defending Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence. He stated, “Today, I approved new operations for the Security Service of Ukraine,” reflecting a continued commitment to national security amid ongoing hostilities.

The announcement follows a response from Russian President Vladimir Putin to a letter from Zelensky, in which the Ukrainian leader remarked that Russia has “once again chosen war.” This statement underscores the escalating tensions between the two nations.

Earlier in the week, Zelensky recognized individuals involved in a special operation dubbed “Spider Web” with state awards, acknowledging their contributions to Ukraine’s defense efforts.

On June 1, 2025, Ukrainian drones targeted multiple military airfields across Russia, including locations in Irkutsk, Murmansk, Ryazan, and Ivanovo. The SBU reported that the operation resulted in the destruction of 41 Russian aircraft, including A-50, Tu-95, Tu-22M3, and Tu-160 bombers. Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, stated that 13 of these aircraft were confirmed destroyed.

President Zelensky has confirmed new operations by the SBU, citing their effectiveness in the ongoing conflict. The announcement coincides with rising tensions following a recent exchange with President Putin.
