Ukraine Urges Energy Conservation Amid Increased Consumption

On April 14, Ukraine is not expected to impose any electricity usage restrictions, but consumers are advised to limit the use of high-power appliances from 6 PM to 10 PM. This recommendation comes from Ukrenergo and the Ministry of Energy.

Electricity consumption has risen significantly, with levels reported at 5.3% higher than the same time the previous day as of 9:30 AM. This increase is attributed to the resumption of active production activities following the Easter holidays.

The Ministry of Energy has confirmed that no restrictions are anticipated for today. However, they emphasized that, given the weather conditions, it would be beneficial to shift energy consumption to the hours when solar power plants are most effective, specifically between 11 AM and 3 PM. Consumers are still encouraged to conserve energy during the evening hours.

As a result of ongoing Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, several regions, including Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv, are experiencing power outages. Emergency restoration efforts are underway wherever security conditions permit.

Additionally, due to the disconnection of a high-voltage line supplying the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the facility has switched to diesel generators for power. This marks the 13th complete power outage for the plant since the onset of the full-scale war, with investigations ongoing to determine the cause of the line disconnection.

Ukraine is experiencing a rise in electricity consumption post-Easter, prompting authorities to request energy conservation during peak evening hours. Meanwhile, power outages persist in several regions due to ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure.
