Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced plans to enhance the basic pay for military personnel, aiming to raise it to 30,000 hryvnias. This statement was made during a public address on June 12.
“The more combat tasks there are, the higher the level of payments. There will be new, significantly stronger contracts for infantry. An average of 300,000 hryvnias on the front line,” the president stated.
Zelensky detailed that the new contracts for military service would vary in duration, offering terms of 10, 14, and 24 months, along with specific conditions for deferments.
“Additionally, there will be increased payments for Ukrainian combat commanders, which is intended to create a positive incentive to retain management experience within the army. The Cabinet of Ministers will approve a specific mechanism, and the first new payments are expected to begin in June,” Zelensky added.
The president also mentioned plans to simplify transfers within the military and to expand opportunities for advancement, although he did not provide specifics on what these incentives would entail.
On the same day, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that the Ministry of Defense is preparing a reform aimed at establishing clearer service terms and increasing military pay. She indicated that details of this reform would be presented in the coming weeks.
Svyrydenko further noted that the Cabinet is working on a reform related to the Territorial Recruitment Centers, which she described as “the most complex issue in Ukrainian society.”
President Zelensky has outlined plans to increase military salaries and introduce new contracts to enhance service conditions for Ukrainian soldiers. The reforms aim to provide clearer terms of service and better financial incentives, with details expected in the near future.
