Ukraine Faces Renewed Attacks as President Zelensky Visits Damaged Sites in Kyiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited several locations in Kyiv that were struck by Russian missiles, including the recently reopened National Chernobyl Museum, which sustained significant damage during the assault.

In a statement on Telegram, Zelensky reported that Russian forces targeted Kyiv and other cities overnight, launching the majority of their missiles at residential buildings, schools, and a historic food market. The attack resulted in the destruction of the Chernobyl Museum, along with damage to the National Art Museum and the office of the German broadcaster ARD.

On May 24, Ukraine experienced a large-scale attack, with the Ukrainian Air Force reporting that Russian troops deployed 600 drones of various types and 90 missiles from air, sea, and ground platforms, primarily focusing their assault on the capital.

The attack in Kyiv resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with authorities confirming that 77 others were injured. Damage was recorded at over 40 locations across several districts, including Shevchenkivskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Obolonskyi, and Holosiivskyi. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the Shevchenkivskyi and Darnytskyi districts, where individuals may still be trapped under debris.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the attack caused damage to residential buildings, shopping centers, educational institutions, the food market, and administrative buildings of the State Emergency Service and police, as well as the National Chernobyl Museum.

In the Kyiv region, reports from the Regional Military Administration indicated that two people died in the Bucha and Obukhiv districts, with nine others injured, including an infant. In Cherkasy, an attack by a Russian drone on a residential building resulted in injuries to 11 people, two of whom are children.

President Zelensky stated that at least 83 people have been affected by the widespread assault across Ukraine, with fatalities reported.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility for the extensive drone and missile strikes, including ballistic missiles, asserting that the targets were military command facilities, air bases, and enterprises within Ukraine’s defense industry.

President Zelensky's visit to damaged sites in Kyiv follows a significant Russian missile attack that resulted in casualties and extensive destruction. The assault has raised concerns about the ongoing conflict and its impact on civilians.
