The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has initiated extensive security operations in the northern regions bordering Russia and Belarus. This decision aligns with directives from the country’s military leadership and aims to bolster national defense.
In collaboration with various security agencies, including the National Police, Armed Forces, National Guard, and State Border Guard Service, the operation encompasses the Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Volyn, and Rivne regions. These measures are designed to address several critical areas:
- Counterintelligence protection;
- Prevention of sabotage;
- Avoidance of terrorist activities;
- Verification of citizens and vehicles.
Among the implemented actions are intensified document checks, vehicle inspections, and monitoring of compliance with curfew regulations. The SBU has urged citizens to be understanding of potential inconveniences and to cooperate with law enforcement officials by carrying identification and adhering to curfew guidelines.
“The SBU requests that citizens understand the possible inconveniences and respond appropriately to lawful actions and requests from law enforcement, carrying identification and observing the curfew,” the statement read.
On May 20, President Volodymyr Zelensky convened a meeting of the military leadership to discuss the likelihood of offensive operations by Russia from Belarus. As a result, Ukrainian forces will be reinforced in the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction.
In response to security concerns, Ukraine has launched a comprehensive operation along its northern borders with Russia and Belarus, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. This initiative aims to prevent sabotage and terrorist activities while ensuring public safety through increased checks and community cooperation.
