The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council following a severe airstrike on Kyiv and its surrounding areas that resulted in multiple fatalities.
Andriy Sybiga, the country’s Foreign Minister, announced the initiative via social media, emphasizing the need for a swift international response to the attacks. He stated, “I have instructed to convene a meeting of the UN Security Council immediately and utilize other international platforms to address the murders of Ukrainian civilians by Russia and attacks on humanitarian workers.”
During the assault, which occurred overnight, at least eight individuals lost their lives, including a 12-year-old child, and dozens more sustained injuries. Over 20 people remain unaccounted for, according to reports from local authorities.
Sybiga highlighted the scale of the attacks, asserting that such acts of terror necessitate a decisive international reaction. He urged all nations to respond accordingly. Additionally, he instructed Ukrainian embassies to lower flags and open condolence books on May 15.
Furthermore, on Friday morning, the Foreign Ministry plans to invite foreign ambassadors in Kyiv to visit the site where a significant portion of a residential building was destroyed due to the Russian strike.
This incident marks a continuation of the ongoing conflict, with the latest airstrike occurring on the night of May 14. As of 5 PM, reports confirmed eight fatalities, with 44 individuals injured and 20 still missing.
