On April 25, Ukraine and Azerbaijan formalized six agreements, with a significant emphasis on defense collaboration. This announcement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Gabala.
“Today we signed six documents. Our teams will share details later. The primary focus today is security, specifically the defense-industrial complex,” Zelensky stated.
Aliyev elaborated on discussions regarding military-technical cooperation between the two nations, asserting that this area holds potential for both Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
“We see the development of military industries and the defense-industrial complex. Overall, we have excellent opportunities in production. Today, we also discussed this, and in all sectors, we aim to deepen our cooperation,” the Azerbaijani president remarked.
He expressed confidence that Zelensky’s visit to Azerbaijan would contribute significantly to enhancing relations between Baku and Kyiv.
Prior to his arrival in Azerbaijan, Zelensky visited Saudi Arabia and attended a summit of EU leaders in Cyprus. In March, he noted that 228 Ukrainian specialists were deployed in the Middle East to assist local air defense forces in countering Iranian drone threats. Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine had received 11 requests for security support from neighboring countries of Iran, as well as from European nations and the United States, in response to threats posed by Iranian drones and similar challenges.
The recent agreements between Ukraine and Azerbaijan underscore a commitment to enhancing defense cooperation. This partnership is expected to strengthen military capabilities and foster deeper ties between the two nations.
