During a press conference at the White House, President Donald Trump stated that Iran is aware of the boundaries set by the ongoing ceasefire between the two nations, despite recent exchanges of fire. He refrained from detailing what actions by Iran would constitute a breach of this ceasefire.
Trump remarked, “You will find out, because I will tell you. They know what to do, and they know what not to do, which is even more important.” He also noted that Iran’s naval capabilities have diminished, claiming that their fleet now consists of only “small boats.”
The President reiterated his belief that Tehran is interested in negotiating with the U.S., although he accused them of playing games by publicly denying any talks. “I can say this—Iran wants to make a deal. What I dislike about Iran is that they speak to me with such great respect, and then go on television and say, ‘We haven’t talked to the president!’ They are playing games,” Trump expressed.
On Tuesday, U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper confirmed that the ceasefire with Iran remains in effect, even as both sides have engaged in skirmishes in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump had previously avoided answering whether the ceasefire had ended, suggesting that conflict could persist for another two to three weeks.
On May 4, Trump announced Operation Freedom, aimed at escorting vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. He further threatened to “wipe Iran off the face of the earth” if they obstruct U.S. operations in the region.
President Trump emphasized Iran's awareness of ceasefire boundaries during a recent press conference, while also expressing frustration over their public statements. The situation remains tense as both nations navigate ongoing military exchanges in the Strait of Hormuz.
