The recent shooting in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district has resulted in significant casualties, with eight individuals currently hospitalized. This incident occurred on April 18, as confirmed by the city’s mayor, Vitalii Klitschko.
According to Klitschko’s statements on social media, among the injured are one child in stable but serious condition. The adult victims include one in critical condition, three in serious condition, and three with moderate injuries. Medical personnel are providing necessary care to all affected individuals.
Authorities have classified the shooting as a terrorist act, which has resulted in the deaths of six civilians. In addition to the eight hospitalized, nine others have been reported injured, with six receiving assistance at the scene, including a four-month-old infant.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko has ordered an internal investigation into the police response during the attack, which has raised concerns regarding the handling of the situation.
The shooting incident unfolded when a man opened fire on a crowd in Holosiivskyi district. Following a police operation, the shooter was killed. Reports indicate that the assailant has been identified as 58-year-old Dmytro Vasylchenkov, originally from Moscow, who held Ukrainian citizenship. He had previously lived in Bakhmut, Donetsk region, before moving to Kyiv.
General Prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko confirmed the shooter’s identity and highlighted that he was armed with registered weapons. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover further details surrounding the incident and the shooter’s background.
