Russian Strikes on Zaporizhzhia Result in Casualties and Damage

On May 5, 2026, Russian forces launched a series of attacks on Zaporizhzhia, targeting residential areas with four KAB bombs. The assault caused significant damage to local infrastructure, including residential buildings, a service station, and several vehicles, leading to a tragic loss of life.

According to regional officials, the death toll has risen to 12, with 16 individuals reported injured. The head of the regional military administration, Ivan Fedorov, confirmed that the injuries primarily consist of blast wounds, with one victim in critical condition.

Emergency responders, including police and medical teams, rushed to provide assistance to the wounded. However, during their efforts, Russian forces deployed strike drones to the area, further complicating rescue operations.

Rescue teams are currently conducting a search operation at the damaged service station, where it is feared that additional individuals may be trapped under the rubble. Regina Kharchenko, the city council secretary, reported that the situation remains dire as rescuers work to locate any survivors.

The State Emergency Service (SES) indicated that the airstrike ignited a fire at the service station, affecting over ten vehicles and pallets at a nearby private enterprise. Firefighters are actively working to extinguish all active flames.

“The strikes targeted infrastructure, including a service station and a car wash. The resulting explosions caused fires and damaged production facilities, vehicles, and surrounding residential buildings,” stated the National Police.

This incident marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict, highlighting the persistent threat to civilian areas in Ukraine.

Russian airstrikes on Zaporizhzhia have resulted in multiple casualties and extensive damage to infrastructure. Emergency services are engaged in rescue operations amid ongoing threats from drones.
