The Romanian President, Nicușor Dan, announced that a working session took place in Constanța to review the recent drone explosion incidents near the Black Sea port. This information was shared via social media.
Dan expressed significant concern regarding the safety of the area, acknowledging public worries about the security of visiting the Black Sea. He stated that this summer, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Border Police would enhance patrols aimed at identifying potential threats. Additionally, a special NATO session focusing on the Black Sea is scheduled for June 10.
Confirming that the explosion was caused by a Ukrainian drone that lost control while carrying explosives, Dan emphasized that Russia bears responsibility for such occurrences due to its aggressive actions, which have created a hazardous environment.
“Protocols exist for such situations, and they were followed. However, we are in a position where we must adapt to new technologies developed in the context of this war,”
Dan added.
On June 5, a powerful explosion occurred in the Romanian port of Constanța, reportedly linked to the detonation of a maritime drone. An alert was issued in the city, and an emergency response plan was activated.
Raed Arafat, head of the Romanian Emergency Situations Department, clarified that the drone explosion took place at 10:28 AM. He noted that around 6:00 AM, the ARSVOM service had reported a potential drone presence in the port. Following this, the area was restricted, and authorities isolated the zone. As the risk of an explosion became evident, nearby residents were evacuated.
The Ukrainian Naval Forces also commented on the incident involving the unmanned maritime vehicle during combat operations in the Black Sea operational zone. According to the Navy, one of the maritime drones lost control due to Russian electronic warfare measures and ended up near Romania’s shores.
