Polish fighter jets successfully intercepted a Russian IL-20 reconnaissance aircraft over international waters of the Baltic Sea. This incident was reported by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, on social media.
In his statement, Błaszczak described the event as part of ongoing aggressive actions by the Russian Federation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining robust air defense systems. He noted that flights conducted without operational transponders pose risks to other aircraft, and assured that any similar provocations would prompt an immediate response from Polish pilots.
This interception is not an isolated event; Polish F-16s had previously been deployed on April 8 and April 10 in response to the activity of the IL-20, highlighting a pattern of heightened vigilance in the region.
Poland's recent interception of a Russian reconnaissance aircraft underscores ongoing tensions in the Baltic region. The incident reflects Poland's commitment to its air defense protocols amid repeated provocations from Russia.
