Munich Airport Suspends Operations Due to Drone Sightings

Munich Airport temporarily halted all operations on Thursday morning following reports from pilots about a potential drone near the runways. The incident raised immediate safety concerns, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

According to the German federal police, pilots alerted authorities around 9:00 AM about a suspicious flying object in the vicinity of the airport. The object was believed to be a drone operating in violation of restricted airspace.

In light of the potential threat, all takeoff and landing activities were immediately suspended. A significant police presence was deployed to the scene, and aerial surveillance was conducted using a helicopter. However, the search yielded no confirmed evidence of the drone.

Operations at the airport began to resume gradually around 10:05 AM after police lifted the restrictions. The disruption affected approximately 26 flights, which were diverted to other airports, including Frankfurt and Nuremberg. Additionally, three flights were canceled due to the incident.

This is not the first occurrence of drone-related disruptions at Munich Airport, as previous sightings have similarly led to temporary halts in air traffic, causing delays for thousands of travelers.

Munich Airport faced a temporary shutdown due to reports of a potential drone near its runways, leading to significant flight disruptions. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding drone activity in restricted airspace.
