Authorities in Kyiv have apprehended a 31-year-old man for allegedly brandishing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred in the Dniprovskyi district, prompting a swift police response following reports from concerned citizens.
Witnesses alerted the police after observing the man walking along the Boulevard of the Verkhovna Rada with a gun in hand. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the individual was visibly intoxicated and had been intimidating passersby.
According to police reports, a woman who encountered the man expressed her fear and sought assistance from a group of men nearby. However, the suspect reacted aggressively, using profane language, reloading the weapon, and aiming it at bystanders.
The police detained the man at the scene. A breathalyzer test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 2.26 promille. Authorities confiscated a pneumatic pistol from the suspect and subsequently charged him with hooliganism under Article 296, Part 1 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code. If convicted, he faces a potential sentence of up to five years of imprisonment.
This incident follows a recent shooting in the Holosiivskyi district on April 18, where a gunman killed seven residents and injured over ten others. The assailant was later neutralized by law enforcement. Reports from the Ministry of Internal Affairs indicated that the shooter was using registered firearms, and the attack stemmed from a domestic dispute.
