U.S. and Iran Explore Incremental Agreement Amid Ongoing Negotiations

Despite the recent collapse of the second round of negotiations, the United States and Iran may not be as far apart as previously thought. Diplomatic efforts are intensifying behind the scenes, focusing on a phased approach to potential agreements.

Sources indicate that the initial phase of any prospective deal would aim to restore pre-war conditions and ensure the unrestricted operation of the Strait of Hormuz.

Discussions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, a central issue that both the U.S. and Israel have cited as a justification for military action, are expected to be addressed at a later stage.

Former President Donald Trump previously stated that any agreement would necessitate Iran’s commitment to halt uranium shipments nearing weapon-grade quality and to cease uranium enrichment altogether—conditions that Iran has firmly rejected.

Additionally, intermediaries are reportedly applying pressure on both sides to reach an agreement, with the coming days deemed critical. There is a looming threat that the U.S. could decide to terminate negotiations and resume military operations.

In a related development, it was reported that Iran recently presented a new proposal to the U.S. aimed at ending hostilities. This proposal includes a return to normal operations in the Strait of Hormuz, alongside the lifting of the American blockade, while postponing discussions on nuclear issues.

In the hours following this proposal, sources revealed that President Trump and his national security team reviewed the offer. Although Trump expressed skepticism regarding Tehran’s proposal, he did not outright dismiss it. However, reports suggest he indicated that acceptance was unlikely.

According to Wall Street Journal sources, the U.S. intends to continue its negotiations with Iran, and the White House is expected to present its response and counter-proposals in the coming days.

Negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are shifting towards a phased agreement, focusing initially on restoring pre-war conditions. While skepticism remains regarding Iran's nuclear program, both sides are under pressure to reach a consensus in the coming days.
