The latest meeting of the Contact Group for military assistance to Ukraine concluded in Germany on April 15, with significant pledges from various nations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov summarized the outcomes of the Ramstein format discussions.
Belgium, Norway, Lithuania, Estonia, and Bulgaria announced their contributions to the Ukraine Defense Fund (PURL). Lithuania committed $39 million to a Czech initiative and $29 million to PURL, while also enhancing its defense forces with armored vehicles and supporting military rehabilitation. Belgium is directing €75 million towards the Czech initiative, another €75 million for a German air defense initiative, and €85 million for a drone coalition. Additionally, Belgium is backing F-16 support and increasing sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet. Estonia is contributing $13 million to bolster air defense through PURL.
Germany pledged a substantial $4 billion investment to enhance air defense capabilities, along with an additional $600 million for developing deep strike and mid strike capabilities.
The United Kingdom announced its largest-ever drone supply package for Ukraine, promising over 120,000 drones of various types to the Ukrainian Armed Forces this year.
Norway allocated more than $500 million for drone support for brigades and $150 million to strengthen Ukrainian logistics. The Netherlands has committed over €200 million for drone procurement.
Spain is contributing €215 million under the SAFE initiative and is enhancing air defense with additional Patriot missiles.
Canada is also making significant contributions, including $15 million to the NSATU fund, $42 million for the Czech initiative, and $17 million for critical engineering equipment.
The recent Ramstein meeting resulted in substantial military aid commitments to Ukraine from several countries, highlighting a unified effort to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities amidst ongoing conflict. Key contributions include significant funds for drones, air defense, and logistical support.
