Intense Fighting Reported on Multiple Fronts in Ukraine

Ukrainian military officials reported 182 combat encounters across various fronts as of the start of the day, indicating a significant uptick in hostilities.

The most concentrated Russian assaults occurred in the Pokrovsk direction, with 38 attacks aimed at advancing towards several settlements, including Bilitske, Zatyshok, and Novy Donbas. One of these offensives is currently ongoing.

In the Huliaipole sector, Russian forces launched 22 attacks in areas such as Dobropillia and Priluky, with four of these assaults still in progress.

The Kostiantynivka direction saw 13 attempts by Russian troops to breach Ukrainian defenses near Kostiantynivka and surrounding communities.

Fighting is also ongoing in the South Slobozhansky, Kupiansk, Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Oleksandrivka, Orikhiv, and Dnipro directions.

On April 15, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, noted that the Russian military had intensified its offensive operations along the entire 1,200-kilometer front line, coinciding with a change in weather conditions. He identified the most active sectors in March as Oleksandrivka, Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, and Lyman.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the situation on the front lines as particularly critical on April 23, stating that Ukrainian positions are more stable than in previous months and years. However, he warned that Russia continues to prepare for aerial assaults on Ukraine.

According to the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the realities on the battlefield as of late March 2026 suggest that significant Russian gains, let alone a complete victory, are not inevitable.

The Ukrainian military has reported a surge in combat activity, with Russian forces launching numerous attacks across multiple fronts. While Ukrainian positions appear more stable, concerns remain over potential aerial assaults from Russia.
