In the early hours of April 28, drone strikes targeted a maritime terminal and an oil refinery in Tuapse, located in Russia’s Krasnodar region. Reports from local sources indicate that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were responsible for the attacks, which resulted in multiple explosions and a visible fire in one area.
Witnesses described hearing over a dozen loud blasts within a span of two hours. They noted that the drones appeared to approach from the sea at low altitudes. Eyewitness accounts also mentioned flames and smoke rising from the site where drone debris fell.
While the exact impact of the attacks remains unclear, local authorities had previously issued a warning regarding drone threats in the region. Consequently, restrictions were implemented for incoming and outgoing flights at airports in Krasnodar, Gelendzhik, and Sochi.
This incident follows earlier reports from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which confirmed damage to oil refineries in Tuapse and Yaroslavl. On April 26, it was reported that a vacuum oil distillation unit was damaged at a refinery in Yaroslavl, and on April 20, 24 storage tanks were destroyed and four others damaged at the Tuapse refinery.
