Since the early hours of June 6, Ukrainian defense forces have engaged in 64 combat encounters with Russian troops, according to the latest operational report from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Military sources indicate that two clashes occurred in the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, where Russian forces launched 30 artillery attacks on defensive positions and nearby settlements.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian units attempted to displace Ukrainian forces near Pishchane and Kupiansk, resulting in two attacks. One of these confrontations is ongoing. The Lyman area has also seen four assault attempts by enemy forces near Novoselivka, Stavky, and Drobysheve, with one encounter still in progress.
Furthermore, in the Sloviansk direction, Ukrainian units successfully neutralized one Russian advance near the settlement of Kryva Luka. In the Kramatorsk direction, a Russian offensive near Chasiv Yar concluded without success. Ukrainian forces repelled 12 attacks from Russian troops attempting to breach defensive lines in the Konstantynivka, Ivanopillia, Rusynovyi Yar, and Illinivka areas.
Additionally, in the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces conducted 21 assault operations aimed at displacing Ukrainian units from their positions near Toretske, Velyke, Novo Donbas, Zapovidne, Novooleksandrivka, Rodynske, Shevchenka, Hryshyne, Serhiivka, Kotlyne, Novopavlivka, and Udaichne. Five of these confrontations are ongoing.
According to the DeepState project, May marked the first month since autumn 2023 in which the area of occupied territories by Russian forces showed a negative growth, indicating that the aggressor lost more land than it gained. This trend is corroborated by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which reports that over six months of intense assaults (from December 2025 to May 2026), Russian troops managed to advance by just over 40 square kilometers.
Analysts note that Ukrainian forces have significantly halted the Russian offensive during the spring-summer campaign of 2026. On May 21, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that Ukraine had managed to slow the advance of Russian forces considerably and gradually regain the initiative on the front lines, aided by various factors including the disabling of Starlink for the aggressor and an increase in medium-range drone strikes.
Intense combat between Ukrainian and Russian forces continues across multiple fronts, with significant clashes reported and a noted shift in territorial control. Recent analyses suggest Ukraine is effectively countering Russian advances, marking a critical point in the ongoing conflict.
