In a report released the previous day, the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) indicated that Ukrainian forces are regaining tactical initiative along various segments of the frontline. Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated in a press briefing that Ukraine has significantly slowed the advance of Russian forces and is gradually regaining control, attributing this shift to the efforts of Ukrainian military personnel and other factors, including the disruption of Russian communications via Starlink and an increase in medium-range drone strikes.
Additionally, on May 19, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, acknowledged the potential for renewed offensive operations by Russian forces from Belarus.
Recent reports indicate a surge in combat activity along the eastern frontlines, with Ukrainian forces successfully repelling numerous attacks. As tactical dynamics shift, officials highlight factors contributing to Ukraine's regained initiative against Russian advances.
