Intense Combat Activity Reported in Eastern Ukraine

The Ukrainian General Staff reported a significant increase in combat engagements along the front lines, with 203 clashes occurring since the beginning of the day. The most intense fighting has been observed in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole directions, where over 60 Russian attacks were recorded.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces launched 32 assaults, attempting to advance in areas including Rodynske, Vasylivka, Novooleksandrivka, Hryshyne, and Udačne, as well as toward the settlements of Stepy, Ivanivka, Serhiivka, and Dorožne.

Meanwhile, in the Huliaipole direction, 30 attacks were reported near Dobropillia, Zlahoda, Zaliznychne, Olenokostianivka, Pryliuky, and in the vicinity of Vozdvizhivka, Verkhnia Terza, Huliaipole, Charivne, Tsvitkove, and Hirke.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled 11 Russian assaults in the Kostiantynivka direction. Ongoing combat continues in the Northern Slobozhanskyi, Kursk, Southern Slobozhanskyi, Kupiansk, Lyman, Sloviansk, Oleksandrivka, Orikhiv, and Dnipro directions. Notably, there were no offensive actions reported from the enemy in the Kramatorsk direction.

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), from December 2025 to May 2026, the Russian military gained control over 40.64 square kilometers in Ukraine while losing 281.1 square kilometers.

On May 21, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that Ukraine has significantly slowed the advance of Russian forces and is gradually regaining the initiative on the front lines. This progress has been attributed to various factors, including the disruption of Starlink services for the aggressor and an increase in medium-range drone strikes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video address on May 25, emphasized that Ukraine currently holds stronger positions on the front lines.

The Ukrainian General Staff has reported a surge in combat activity, particularly in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole regions, where numerous Russian attacks have been repelled. Ukrainian officials claim to have regained some initiative on the front lines, aided by strategic factors and military operations.
