Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that the country will provide Ukraine with a significant number of air-to-air missiles from its own stockpiles. This announcement came after the 35th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, held in Brussels.
Pistorius emphasized that enhancing air defense remains a top priority. He noted that Germany has recently delivered another IRIS-T system to Ukraine and has expedited the supply of guided IRIS-T SLS and SLM missiles.
In addition to the air-to-air missiles, Pistorius revealed plans for further financial support aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. He stated, “We have agreed to provide $200 million for the purchase of additional PAC-3 guided missiles under the JumpStart program. This means we will co-finance the first batch of supplies.”
The minister also expressed hope that other partners of Ukraine would contribute to this funding initiative. Prior to the meeting, Pistorius confirmed that Berlin would allocate $400 million for the procurement of American weapons and ammunition for Ukraine through the PURL and Jumpstart programs.
Germany's commitment to supplying air-to-air missiles and financial support highlights its ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities. The announcement underscores the collaborative approach among allies to enhance Ukraine's military resources amid ongoing conflicts.
