Former Ukrainian MP Injured in Drone Attack While Commanding Battalion

Oleg Tyahnybok, a former member of Ukraine’s parliament and current commander of the drone battalion within the 128th Brigade, sustained injuries from a drone attack but survived the incident. The attack occurred while he was moving through a military installation.

According to Timur Knysh, the battalion’s deputy commander, an FPV drone struck Tyahnybok’s vehicle directly. “Thank God this news is bittersweet but not tragic. He has significant concussions along with barotrauma and a concussion, but he is alive and received medical assistance. We are currently monitoring his health,” Knysh stated.

Tyahnybok is known as the leader of the Svoboda party and served as a member of the Ukrainian parliament during its seventh convocation. He also ran for the presidency in Ukraine in 2014.

Following the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Tyahnybok volunteered to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine, pausing his political activities during the martial law period. In 2023, he became the deputy commander for moral and psychological support within the 128th Brigade, and by 2025, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel, leading the drone battalion engaged in combat operations in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Oleg Tyahnybok, a former Ukrainian MP and current military commander, was injured in a drone strike but is recovering. His military career has evolved significantly since the start of the conflict in 2022.
