Massive Drone Attack Reported in Leningrad Region and St. Petersburg

In the early hours of June 6, authorities in the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg reported a significant drone attack. Governor Alexander Drozdenko of the Leningrad region stated that 141 drones were allegedly intercepted over the area. Meanwhile, St. Petersburg’s Governor Alexander Beglov warned residents of possible mobile internet disruptions and advised them to stay indoors.

Debris from the drones was reported to have fallen in the Luga, Vsevolozhsk, and Lomonosov districts of the Leningrad region. Drozdenko noted that the Ministry of Defense is currently addressing a fire near the village of Bolshaya Izhora.

According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+, the 15th arsenal of the Russian Navy, a strategic facility for storing and maintaining naval munitions, was struck in Bolshaya Izhora. Reports from Astra indicated that other potential targets included the Cadet Naval Corps in Kronstadt and an oil depot in Peterhof, where a fire was also recorded. The Maritime Thermal Engineering Institute in Lomonosov, a key enterprise for submarine weapon development, may have also been impacted.

Witnesses reported hearing explosions in St. Petersburg, and similar incidents were noted in other regions of Russia and occupied territories. Monitoring channels indicated that the port in occupied Mariupol and an oil depot in Zughres, located in the Donetsk region, were under attack. Additionally, fires were reported at an oil depot in Ust-Labinsk, Krasnodar Krai, and explosions were noted in the city of Vuzlova in Tula Oblast. A fire at the Antipin Oil Refinery in Tyumen was also mentioned, though it remains unclear if it was linked to the drone attacks.

As of now, there are no official confirmations regarding the strikes, and Ukrainian military officials have not commented on the situation. This incident follows previous attacks on St. Petersburg, including one on June 3, during which Ukrainian forces reportedly targeted an oil terminal and a corvette in Kronstadt, with satellite images confirming damage.

Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, various sites within Russia and occupied Ukrainian territories have experienced aerial assaults. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has acknowledged many of these attacks, asserting that Ukrainian defense forces are systematically working to diminish the combat capabilities of Russian occupying forces and compel Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.

A large-scale drone attack occurred in the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg, with significant damage reported at various military and civilian sites. Authorities are investigating the incidents, while Ukrainian forces have not yet commented on the situation.
