During a recent meeting of the European Council, leaders of the European Union agreed to extend sectoral sanctions against Russia for an additional 12 months, a departure from the usual six-month duration. This decision was confirmed by Maria Tomašik, spokesperson for the President of the European Council.
Tomašik noted that this marks the first instance in which the decision was reached unanimously by all 27 member states. The meeting began with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who left before the discussions concluded.
