Emergency Services Extinguish Fires in Kyiv Following Russian Strikes

Emergency responders have successfully extinguished significant fires at two prominent locations in Kyiv, including the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the Mystetskyi Arsenal, caused by recent Russian attacks on the capital. The fire at the Lavra covered approximately 800 square meters, while the Mystetskyi Arsenal fire spanned around 1,000 square meters.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), images and videos showcasing the aftermath of the strikes have been released. Efforts to mitigate the damage continue at three additional sites where Russian forces targeted civilian and residential infrastructure.

The latest reports indicate that the civilian death toll has risen to five, with 34 individuals injured, including two children. The situation is still developing as authorities gather more information.

In a related context, the Kyiv Military Administration confirmed that the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra sustained direct hits, resulting in extensive damage. Metropolitan Epiphaniy, head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, condemned the attack on social media, labeling it as another crime against humanity. Furthermore, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that Ukraine is initiating procedures through UNESCO and other international mechanisms to demand an immediate and appropriate response to the damage inflicted on the Lavra.

Reports indicate that a Russian Shahed drone struck the altar area of the Uspensky Cathedral within the Lavra. In response to the ongoing threat, sacred artifacts, including icons and liturgical items, have been evacuated, and the site has been temporarily closed to visitors.

Emergency services in Kyiv have managed to extinguish fires at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and Mystetskyi Arsenal following Russian strikes. The attacks resulted in civilian casualties and significant damage to cultural heritage sites, prompting calls for international action.
