The United Kingdom, France, and Germany, collectively known as the E3, have pledged to assist Ukraine in enhancing its defense capabilities against Russian ballistic missiles. This commitment was articulated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in a recent interview with The Guardian.
President Zelensky expressed optimism about the potential development of a European anti-ballistic missile system in collaboration with the UK, stating, “The E3 countries will help us with anti-ballistic measures. I hope we can create a European anti-ballistic system together with the United Kingdom. We are working on this, as it is necessary for us and for the UK.”
During the E3 plus Ukraine meeting held in London, leaders reached a consensus on the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia. Zelensky emphasized the urgency of transitioning the Ukrainian military to a contract-based system, highlighting the risks faced by soldiers and the necessity of providing them with adequate salaries. He noted, “Being a soldier is dangerous, and we must ensure they receive decent wages because they are giving their lives. For this, we need additional funding, as we are currently far from what Russia pays its mercenaries. I sincerely hope our friends will assist us.”
On June 7, President Zelensky visited the United Kingdom, where he engaged in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, participated in the E3 plus Ukraine meeting, and had an audience with King Charles III.
The E3 nations have committed to bolstering Ukraine's defenses against Russian missile threats, as articulated by President Zelensky during his visit to the UK. The discussions also included plans for enhanced sanctions against Russia and the need for improved military compensation.
