A tragic car accident in Kyiv on June 5 resulted in the deaths of four individuals, leading to the arrest of the driver involved. The incident occurred on Chokolivskyi Boulevard in the Solomianskyi district.
The 49-year-old driver, a resident of Kherson Oblast, lost control of his Mercedes-Benz and crashed into an underground passage. Among the deceased were two police officers, 24-year-old Senior Lieutenant Dmytro Bondarchuk and 21-year-old Lieutenant Denys Budchenko, who were on duty at the time of the accident. Additionally, a woman and a 12-year-old boy also lost their lives.
Three other individuals sustained injuries in the crash. Authorities revealed that the driver had a history of administrative offenses for speeding and had been involved in four previous accidents, two of which occurred in 2026.
The Kyiv police have initiated a criminal investigation under Article 286, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to violations of traffic safety rules resulting in multiple fatalities. The article carries a potential penalty of up to ten years in prison. Police are currently determining the next steps regarding charges against the driver.
