Ukraine has enacted sanctions against more than 120 Russian military commanders responsible for missile strikes on Ukrainian cities, alongside restrictions targeting several Russian religious leaders.
The sanctions list includes 121 individuals, primarily commanders from the Russian long-range aviation, naval forces, and missile-artillery units. These individuals have been identified as orchestrating and coordinating attacks on Ukrainian urban areas using missiles such as Kalibr, Iskander-M, and air-launched cruise missiles.
According to the Office of the President, these military units are implicated in assaults on key locations, including the children’s hospital “Okhmatdyt,” the Amstor shopping center in Kremenchuk, and residential buildings in Ternopil, Sumy, Chernihiv, and the village of Groza.
“This marks one of the first instances where our security services have successfully identified over 100 specific individuals who directly issue orders and launch missiles against Ukraine,” stated Vladislav Vlasuk, the President’s representative on sanctions policy.
A separate package of sanctions has been directed at nine religious figures, including representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and associated organizations, who have publicly justified Russia’s invasion and called for violence against Ukrainians.
Ukraine intends to share information regarding these sanctions with international partners to synchronize restrictions across various jurisdictions.
It is worth noting that Ukraine has been systematically imposing restrictions on individuals and entities supporting Russian aggression. Earlier in April, sanctions were applied to Russian defense industry enterprises and organizations involved in the construction of the Kerch Bridge.
In March, the President signed decrees imposing restrictions on Russian Paralympians participating in the conflict, as well as on Iranian companies supplying the Russian military. Additionally, in late February, sanctions targeted Russian logistics firms responsible for transporting military cargo to temporarily occupied territories in Ukraine.
Ukraine has imposed sanctions on over 120 Russian military commanders and several religious leaders linked to missile strikes and support for the invasion. The measures aim to enhance international coordination against those facilitating Russian aggression.
