U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly addressed the recent parliamentary elections in Hungary, expressing a lack of concern over the defeat of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, whom he had previously endorsed.
Trump praised the election winner, Péter Madár, leader of the Tisza party, who emerged victorious on April 12. He remarked, “I think the new prime minister will do well in his duties – he is a good man.”
The president noted that Madár was formerly a member of Orbán’s Fidesz party and shares similar views, particularly on immigration policy. “I believe he will be a good prime minister,” Trump added.
Additionally, Trump mentioned uncertainty about whether his personal involvement in the campaign would have influenced the outcome, as Vice President J.D. Vance represented him in Budapest instead. “He (Orbán) was significantly behind. I wasn’t that heavily involved in this matter. Although Viktor is a good man,” Trump stated.
This marks Trump’s first public reaction to Orbán’s defeat in the Hungarian parliamentary elections.
