Italy Summons Russian Ambassador Following Hostile Remarks by State TV Host

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Russian ambassador to Italy, Sergey Razov, in response to derogatory comments made by prominent Russian state television host Vladimir Solovyov about Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced the diplomatic action, stating, “I have instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Russian ambassador to express official protests against the extremely serious and offensive remarks made by Russian television presenter Vladimir Solovyov regarding Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.”

Solovyov, who has faced legal issues in Italy, including the seizure of his properties on Lake Como, recently launched a tirade against Meloni during his program, “Full Contact.” He used explicit language to insult the Prime Minister in Italian.

“Meloni is a fascist creature who has betrayed her voters, campaigning under entirely different slogans. Betrayal is her second name; she has also betrayed Trump, to whom she previously pledged loyalty,” Solovyov stated.

The outburst from Solovyov appears to be fueled not only by personal grievances against the Italian government but also by recent reports of new military support agreements between Italy and Ukraine, which he criticized.

Meloni’s leadership has also drawn criticism from former U.S. President Donald Trump. In a recent interview with Italian media, Trump expressed discontent with Meloni’s refusal to assist in American operations against Iran.

“Do people like this? I can’t imagine. I’m shocked by her. I thought she had courage, but I was mistaken,” Trump remarked.

In response to Trump’s criticism, Meloni emphasized that true courage involves speaking honestly with allies and acting in the best interests of her country and Europe.

Italy's Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador following offensive comments made by Vladimir Solovyov about Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The incident highlights ongoing tensions related to Italy's military support for Ukraine and criticism from former U.S. President Donald Trump.
